Week 2: day 5

Our final day of camp ended with lots of laughter and fun, see you next week!

Friendship class

Our final day as treasure hunters has arrived! Campers were excited to go on a treasure hunt. They practiced taking turns, sharing, and having an open mind as other campers attempted to crack the clue. Campers did a great job being patient and staying together as a group as they walked from destination to destination.

Discovery Class

Land ho! We might have had to “batten down the hatches” during some rough seas this week but made it to land with communication and teamwork. Today we had a blast navigating through an obstacle course filled with crocodiles and shark infested waters...Shiver me timbers! Luckily, we found treasure chests filled with gems and doubloons chests!

Projects class

Campers had a wonderful time in Projects today creating Crayon/Paint Resist paintings in bright colors. Our theme was Treasure Island and at the end of class campers were given their Treasure Bags chock full of all of their arts and crafts projects from their time at camp along with some treasures!

Chit-Chat class

It’s Friday!! Today in Chit Chat Class we talked about all the new friends we’ve made at camp! We reviewed the different lessons we’ve talked about this week. Teamwork, working together and being a good friend to all. We played pirate bingo to wrap up our week 2 at camp! The campers had a super fun time with this activity and they all earned a prize from the treasure chest!

Yak Academy

Today we learned about the meaning of the word flexibility and practiced our cooperation and collaboration skills as we performed and filmed pirate skits!

Games class

Free play on the playground is a great way to end week two here at camp! It is always fun to play with new friends and enjoy the sunshine.

Discovery class

Mindfulness class

Today in mindfulness we practiced being present in the moment through sitting and watching Finding Nemo. They practiced identifying emotions from scenes. They enjoyed watching and relating emotions to causes. Our skits from the prior Yak Academy lesson took us some extra time, so we used a bit of our mindfulness time. Then we practiced mindful helpfulness by picking up the classroom.

Yak Apprentice

Can you believe it is already the end of week 2!?! We have learned so much these past couple of weeks. Today we individually met with our supervisor and heard feedback from our Midterm performance review. The Yak Apprentices are working super hard and the Midterm is a perfect way to see what their strengths are and what can still be worked on. All supervisors are proud of all YAs. Some YAs will start new jobs week 3. This is teaching us how to adapt to change.
