SuperYaks: The Power Within- Day 4
SuperYaks to the Rescue! A superhero announcement from Camp Yakety Yak!
It’s Thursday and our superhero campers are doing some awesome things at camp! We started our day by taking team photos in from of our SuperYak mural. They were GREAT! Then it was off to a fun day of classes and exciting recess activities (like boat origami, scooters and basketball!) We finished the day with some AMAZING team talents! There was dancing, pom-poms, singing and even a puppet show!
Check some of the other things we did in our classes!
Chit Chat:
Today we talked about different superhero qualities, and which ones we have. We then drew a picture of our superhero selves. We also did a superhero popsicle stick craft.
Yak Academy:
We finished our puppets today!!! They look great. Many of us had extra time for us to defeat those evil supervillains Dr. Bad Manners and Prof. Rude. We beat them as your Mother told you: kill them with kindness. Tomorrow we video tape and vanquish those villains for the remainder of camp (although as we all know, Dr. Bad Manners and Prof. Rude will live on casting their evil spell on the unsuspecting citizen).
Games:
After a few rounds of Stop the Bomb where the power of the team resulted in a lot of personal team records and a 2018 camp record, the superheroes turned their attention to personal training. That personal training took the form of the Flash Dash (a shuttle run) to improve their quickness. After a round or two of practice the young superheroes we began timing their run. We will time at least two separate runs so that they can learn to compete with themselves and measure their effort. They were also reminded that running wasn’t every superhero’s strength but that all superheroes would only get better if they improve their lesser powers along with their superpower
Cooking:
Today in cooking we made superhero shields out of toast. The Red, Blue, Green, and Buddies teams cut toast into the shape of a shield. Then they put on butter and cinnamon and sugar.
To complete their shields they decorated them with icing. As a group we talked about how this was a sometimes food. After they were done eating their treat we filled out a sheet about being a superhero. We talked about their name and what their superpowers were. The campers also talked about what their favorite everyday and sometimes foods were. The teams had fun making their shield and talking about being a superhero. All teams were safe in the kitchen and were respectful to their friends.
Discovery:
Today JCC, Orange and Silver teams were in Discovery. We created our very own superhero self portraits. On the back side, we wrote 3 words that made us superheroes (kind, helpful, clever) and 3 words that described our superhero powers (things we were really good at!) Then we flipped the paper over and got started on our superhero self-portrait. We drew ourselves as SUPERHEROES! First, we outlined our picture with a black marker and then got to use paint and make it look beautiful! They turned out so awesome and the campers worked so hard on them!
