SuperYaks: The Power Within- Day 3

SuperYaks to the Rescue! A superhero announcement from Camp Yakety Yak!

It is day three of our superhero week at Camp Yakety Yak and there are A LOT of awesome superhero campers flying around. Our awesome camp mural went up today to be filled with all of the yak backs the campers receive throughout the week. There were so many yak backs given out today for kindness, following directions, helping others and so much more! Way to go Superhero campers!! As always, we ended the day with a fantastic talent show and dance party!

Here’s what else happened in each of our classes today!

Friendship:

Today in Friendship, campers demonstrated superb sportsmanship, turn-taking, and ability to relax into games with friends! So many smiles around! Many campers know the Rock, Paper, Scissors tool, and many of us still could use some practice. It’s a fantastic tool for everyday use at school. We played Tic-Tac-Toe and The Dot Game and practiced using kind words and SuperFlex brains. It’s clearly time to add a new song to the mix because these campers are just mastering every challenge I present! Kindness abounded in class as we listened to each other, enjoyed one another’s contributions and let everyone’s light shine brightly. It’s a true pleasure to just spend class with such FUN-omenal campers and Blue shirts!

Projects:

Today in Projects we began planning for some very special activities this week! We will be making posters for how superheroes follow our three camp rules of “Be Safe, Be Kind, and Try Your Best,” so today we planned out our poses for these pictures. We then got to make our very own superhero capes and masks! We will wear these for our posters and for our superhero-themed dances tomorrow at the team talent show! The capes are made out of old camp t-shirts, and then we got to decorate them with fabric markers to make them unique. What a super way to reuse t-shirts!

Cooking:

This week we celebrate our inner Superhero! To help make our bodies super strong the Red, Blue, Green, and Buddies teams made homemade ranch. We then took celery and carrots and dipped them into the ranch. This was a yummy treat! The campers loved learning how to measure spices. It was also fun to see all of the spices mix together in the blender. All campers stayed safe in the kitchen and had a great time.

Discovery:

Today, yellow team became Superheroes in Discovery! We first talked about how each of us could be superheroes at camp and the qualities that make up an awesome superhero. The campers came up with words like kind, a good friend, helpful, focused and caring as some of the words that describe a class superhero. We then made superhero masks to transform into our very own superheroes! We used paper plates, paint, construction paper, markers and lots of creativity to construct our masks. Some campers made masks that resembled superheroes they knew and some created brand new superheroes, like Captain Kind! It was a fantastic day!
