Buddies Program: Day 7 (July 2016)

Recess

“Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood.” – Mr. Rogers We sure believe that here in the buddies room! Recess and free-play provide campers with ample opportunities to develop motor skills, to learn from each other and their environment, and to practice the skills we learn in more formal settings.

Play

What a fun day in Play! Our campers practiced turn-taking and following directions through an adaption of red-light/green-light while developing their motor skills. Participants were given a choice of running or riding a scooter bike. After everyone had a few opportunities, we worked on social interactions and team skills with the parachute. Everyone had a blast running under the parachute.

Circle Time -Special Guest

The Buddies program is all about customizing camp activities to ensure accessibility. While many of our campers have been able to attend at least part of assembly, others still prefer smaller groups and quieter environments. I made special arrangements for the best part of assembly to come to us: Mr. Rick's songs and stories!

Art

In honor of one of Mr. Rick's most popular songs, the Llama Song, the campers created llama themed art. They were provided with opportunities to communicate choices about materials and colors while they explored a variety of textures including cotton, wool, synthetic yarn, glue, and popsicle sticks.
