Week 4: day 1

This week our campers are learning all about how to keep the earth healthy with Super Yak on the eco-track! Our instructors are using repurposed materials, and taking the time to educate campers on how they can participate in the eco-track right at home!

Mindfulness class

Today we did a short introduction. We then focused on staying calm and focused during structured tasks. Campers used air dry clay to create their own creations. Some created a favorite plant or an animal. We also had a brief discussion on what the term mindfulness means and what the week’s sessions will entail. Campers were great at sharing their responses on what mindfulness means to them and why it is so important. We spent the rest of the session coloring intricate designs. Projects class

Campers had a great time today with this week’s theme, Yakety Yak on the Eco Track! We talked about the many elements and landscapes that make up our planet,as well as the plants, and animals, wild and tame. They made collages called” Scenes from Planet Earth” using lots of different kinds of patterned paper and made textures using tissue paper and markers. The results were really fun and colorful!

Yak Academy

Today we began a new theme: Super Yak on the Eco Trak. We took a few minutes to share about our favorite birds or other things. We learned interesting facts about birds. Next we created crafts from boxes taken out the recycling bin. We made sunflower bird feeders in some groups and flower cardboard/Japanese newspaper decorations in other groups. Finally campers enjoyed getting to know new team members as we played a game called “What Bird am I?” similar to the popular headbands game.

Friendship class

It is week 4 at CYY, today we learned about listening to our body. We listened to a read along of The very hungry caterpillar by Eric Carle. Campers did a wonderful job providing examples of when they listen to their body. Next we made our own caterpillars using egg cartons. Campers were able to start coloring today and tomorrow we will finish adding the eyes and antennas.

Recess time!
