Can you believe that today is the last day of camp?? We definitely can’t!
Today we went about our day as usual - buddies went for their morning walk with new friends and chatted about all the fun things they discovered! Spiders and leaves are the two most popular topics of conversation these days!
At play class, Miss Elise created for us an incredible and unique obstacle course/water play combo that took us all by surprise! But, with our excellent Blue Shirts supporting us we were brave and tried our best!
To round off our weeks theme of adventuring and exploring, we mades maps in Arts and Crafts! A final day of fun with friends using all our favorite art supplies!
Finally, we had a fabulous end-of-the-week party with some of our parents! Everybody got an extra special award, just for them, an...
Ciao, Yak Travelers! Today Buddies campers got to learn about Italy. Did you know Italy is close to the size of Arizona? The campers thought that was interesting. Campers talked about Venice and how there are no roads. Instead, people travel in boats. They thought it would be fun to travel in a boat! Another fun fact we talked about was how much pasta people in Italy eat. The average Italian eats around 55 pounds of pasta a year! So today we made pasta salad. The campers had fun learning about another country and trying a new food. All campers worked together safely and respectfully.
What a wonderfully warm Wednesday! We had a fun morning meeting with Miss Sara and Miss Haley before we headed to Play class. Miss Elise helped us move our bodies with a game of toss the bean bag and snowballs into the basket! If we didn’t make a basket, we learned that’s OK and we can always try again! It also was great way for us to practice waiting and taking turns. We finished off class with our favorite big parachute activity. We practiced holding only one handle and following directions. When Miss Elise said, 1, 2, 3 Up and down, we did that. We also practiced shaking it fast and slow. It was so fun!
In the spirit of the week, we made our very own compasses so we know exactly what direction we are traveling. During centers, we got to use our creative skills a...
It’s so hard to believe that we are already day 2 in week 5! We started our Terrific Tuesday with a daily nature walk and morning meeting. In Play class, Miss Elise got us all warmed up with a “roll the dice” activity where we practiced jumping, crawling and crab walking to get our bodies moving. Then we transitioned to a game of duck duck goose where we practiced waiting, taking turns and cheering on our friends! We finished Play with the goodbye song to move on to the rest of our day!
After lunch we had a great day playing with friends on the playground and we even got to make our own passports! We ended our day with some water play and our famous dance party! Did someone say the Gummy Bear song? What a fun day!!!
In PLAY class, we completed an awesome obstacle course that made us practice our gross and fine motor skills. We climbed through tunnels, jumped in hula hoops, and teetered on a teeter board! We also practiced being patient and waiting our turn. When our bodies got excited, we practiced calming down by taking big breaths!!
Other highlights from the day include Arts & Crafts, Water Play, and watching a "Super Why" video!!
We had so much fun in buddies today! Our buddies instructors were dressed up as SUPERHEROES complete with capes and masks!
Today in cooking we made superhero shields out of toast. We cut toast into the shape of a shield. Then they put on butter and cinnamon and sugar. To complete their shields they decorated them with icing. As a group we talked about how this was a sometimes food. After we were done eating our treat we filled out a sheet about being a superhero. We talked about their name and what their superpowers were. The campers also talked about what their favorite everyday and sometimes foods were. We had fun making our shield and talking about being a superhero.
In Play today, we warmed up our body with a game or Tornado! This is a fun game for practicing counting and turn taking. N...
I t was day three for Camp Yakety Yak's Buddies campers. We continued on with our superhero theme of the week and created our very own superhero capes! In cooking we celebrated our inner Superhero! To help make our bodies super strong we made homemade ranch. We then took celery and carrots and dipped them into the ranch. This was a yummy treat! The campers loved learning how to measure spices. It was also fun to see all of the spices mix together in the blender. All campers stayed safe in the kitchen and had a great time.
It was another awesome day in Buddies today! We are still focusing on our theme of superheroes and talking about taking risks, being courageous and trying new things! We had a fun day with art and water play today. We also had discovery class, where we made superhero puppets out of paper bags, complete with masks, capes and our own decorations! They were awesome!
SuperYaks to the rescue! A superhero announcement from Camp Yakety Yak!
This week we focused on being courageous and not afraid to take risks. We were introduced SuperYak, Camp Yakety Yak's superhero mascot! He might be large and shaggy with horns, but he uses his power for good! We began be talking about what makes each of us special (our hidden superpowers), and how we can use this as a superpower to fight against destructive decisions or friendship mistakes! Our buddies made superhero shields in Discovery class today and were able to enjoy some fun water play at the end of the day!
