Dear CYY Families,

Warmest greetings to you as we navigate these uncertain times as a community, state, nation, and world. The goal and mission of Camp Yakety Yak is to provide a unique inclusive social skills day camp supporting friendship development in children with special needs.

Today, as we all continue to adjust to and understand what this pandemic means for all of us, we face a difficult decision. With camper, family, staff, and volunteer health and well-being as a priority, and in compliance with the gathering, and social distancing restrictions in place under Governor Brown’s orders, the Camp Yakety Yak Board of Directors and Staff have made the difficult decision that we will not be able to safely gather for camp this year. Camp Yakety Yak will not be held this summer for the 2020 CYY Season.

We are committed to refunding all camper deposits and payments that have been made. Due to the large amount of registrations that we had already received prior to the pandemic we are asking for your patience as we move through our refund process.

Please email office@campyaketyyak.org with how you would like to handle your refund.

Without being able to hold camp this year, Camp Yakety Yak will be working to stabilize its funding and start building toward next year. However, it will be a difficult time financially for Camp. Some camper families have already generously decided to donate their registration fee and/or part of their registration payment to support camp. If you would also like to donate any portion of your registration fee or payment we are happy to work with you and appreciate your support. Also, please spread the word and mission of Camp Yakety Yak to anyone you think might be a supporter, we would love to reach out and cultivate new donors.

We recognize this is not an easy outcome for the Camp Yakety Yak campers and families we serve, some who have been with camp for many years and look forward to this annual summer camp experience. This has also not been an easy decision for our team due to the hours of preparation that have taken place and our own excitement to connect with our families, however we truly feel that it is in the best interest of our campers, families and the Camp Yakety Yak Staff and volunteers.

Thank you to our beloved community for your continued support and contributions to our organization. Please stay connected with Camp Yakety Yak through our social media accounts on both Facebook and Instagram.

We look forward to being back and better than ever in 2021!

In health,

Camp Yakety Yak Board of Directors and Staff

Camp Yakety Yak is Unlike Any Other Camp in the State of Oregon!

Camp Yakety Yak (CYY) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to help children with special needs (e.g., Autism, ADHD, Intellectual Disability) grow socially and emotionally by improving their communication skills. The camp's educational mission is two-fold:

1) provide instruction in social & emotional skills to children with special needs & their siblings to support friendship development in a day camp setting;

2) provide an opportunity for future professionals in educational and therapeutic fields to gain knowledge and hands-on experience in working with children with special needs.

Eighty percent of our staff members are students from local universities and high schools who receive 10-30 hours of training and ongoing supervision by our professional faculty.

  • We offer a high camper to staff/volunteer ratio and provide 1:1 support to campers that have higher needs.

  • Intensive practice in social skills (5 hours a day, 5 days a week) with an emphasis on school, home and community success.

  • Multi-disciplinary team of professional supervisors and consultants from general & special education, speech pathology, occupational therapy, behavior analysis, counseling, and nursing

  • Highly trained college-level staff with university partnerships for speech pathology and occupational therapy. We are a "teaching camp" similar to a "teaching hospital." Mature teen volunteers round out our staff and bring the fun element.

  • Service to the whole family in our "Reverse Inclusion" model featuring support of neurotypical siblings who attend right along with their brothers and sisters with special needs

  • Daily Sibling Snack Support Group facilitated by our school counselor  for neurotypical siblings to connect with each other

  • Weekly Coffee,  Tea & Empathy Parent Support Meetings facilitated by CYY Parent Advisory Board Members, with an active Facebook page fostering parent connection throughout the year!
